【摘要】:RefertoGuideE844fortheselection,irradiation,andqualitycontrolofneutrondosimeters.RefertoPracticeE261forageneraldiscussionofthemeasurementofneutronfluencerateandfluence.Theneutronspectrummustbeknowninordertomeasureneutronfluencerateswithasingledetector.Alsoitisnotedthatcrosssectionsarecontinuouslybeingreevaluated.ThelatestrecommendedcrosssectionsanddetailsonhowtheycanbeobtainedarediscussedinGuideE1018.Thereactionrateofadetectornuclideofknowncrosssection,whencombinedwithinformationabouttheneutronspectrum,permitsthedeterminationofthemagnitudeofthefluencerateimpingingonthedetector.Furthermore,ifresultsfromotherdetectorsareavailable,theneutronspectrumcanbedefinedmoreaccurately.ThetechniquesforfluencerateandfluencedeterminationsareexplainedinPracticeE261.140Baisaradioactivenuclideformedasaresultofuraniumfission.Althoughitisformedinfissionofanyheavyatom,therelativeyieldwilldiffer.Recommendedfissionyieldsfor140BaproductionaregiveninTable1.Thedirect(independent)fissionyieldofthedaughterproduct140La,whichiscounted,isgiveninTable2.Theseindependentfissionyieldsarerelativelylowcomparedtothe140Bacumulativefissionyieldandwillnotsignificantlyaffecttheaccuracyofthenondestructiveprocedureandneednotbeconsidered.Thehalf-lifeof140Bais12.752days.Itsdaughter140Lahasahalf-lifeof1.6781days.Thecomparativelylonghalf-lifeof140Baallowsthecountingtobedelayedseveralweeksafterirradiationinahigh-neutronfield.However,toachievemaximumsensitivitythedaughterproduct140Lashouldbecountedfivetosixdaysaftertheirradiationduringnondestructiveanalysisorfivetosixdaysafterchemicalseparationifthelattertechniqueisused.Analternativemethodafterchemicalseparationistocountthe140Badirectly.Becauseofits12.752dayhalf-lifeandsubstantialfissionyield,140Baisusefulforirradiationtimesuptoaboutsixweeksinmoderateintensityfields.Thenumberoffissionsproducedshouldbeapproximately109orgreaterforgoodcountingstatistics.Also,iftheirradiationtimeissubstantiallylongerthansixweeks,theneutronfluenceratedeterminedwillapplymainlytotheneutronfieldexistingduringthelatterpartoftheirradiation.The140Badecayconstantandyieldareknownmoreaccuratelythanthoseofmanyfissionproducts,soitissometimesusedasastandardorbasereactionwithwhichothermeasurementscanbenormalized.1.1Thistestmethoddescribestwoproceduresforthemeasurementofreactionratesbydeterminingtheamountofthefissionproduct140Baproducedbythenon-thresholdreactions235U(n,f),241Am(n,f),and239Pu(n,f),andbythethresholdreactions238U(n,f),237Np(n,f),and232Th(n,f).1.2Thesereactionsproducemanyfissionproducts,amongwhichis140Ba,havingahalf-lifeof12.752days.140Baemitsgammaraysofseveralenergies;however,thesearenoteasilydetectedinthepresenceofotherfissionproducts.Competingactivityfromotherfissionproductsrequiresthatachemicalseparationbeemployedorthatthe140Baactivitybedeterminedindirectlybycountingitsdaughterproduct140La.Thistestmethoddescribesbothprocedure(a),thenondestructivedeterminationof140Babythedirectcountingof140Laseveraldaysafterirradiation,andpro......
